Our Mission
We are passionate about helping people find & follow Jesus.
Our Story
City Light was born out of a heart to lead people of every age, every culture, and every background, into a transforming relationship with Jesus Christ. Although this is just the beginning, God has already been at work building His church here in the beautiful city of Irvine.
Meet Pastor Kim
This is the Kim family – James, Nina, and Grace!
Pastor James grew up on the mission field of Australia and at the age of 6, his father led him to Christ. Mrs. Nina also grew up in. a ministry home, where she got saved in her early teen years in South Korea. They met in Bible College in Southern California, got married, and have a daughter together.
After serving the Lord in Alabama for twelve years, the Lord led the Kims to start a brand new church in Irvine, California. The mission of City Light is to be the light, shine the light, and share the light. We cannot wait to meet you!
Our Values
BE the Light
We embrace “Be The Light” as our first core value, inspired by Matthew 5:14-16. We strive to be a beacon of hope, illuminating the dark path of life with love and compassion, guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ. We believe in shining brightly in our community, spreading the message of faith, and serving as a source of positivity and grace.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
SHINE the Light
We embody “Shine The Light” as our second core value, rooted in John 8:12. We are committed to illuminating the darkness with truth and love, reflecting the teachings of Jesus Christ & Scripture. We strive to be a beacon of hope in the city of Irvine, spreading God’s light through our actions and words.
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
SHARE the Light
We “Share The Light” of the Gospel with everyone around us, as commanded by our Savior in Matthew 28:19–20. We believe in sharing the light of God’s love and truth with our community and beyond.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.”
What do we believe?
We are so glad you asked. In short, we believe the Bible to be true. We believe that the Scriptures help us know God in a personal way. Our beliefs define who we are as a church therefore we hope you take the time to read through our statement of faith to see if what you believe is what we believe the Bible says.
Our Beliefs
We self identify as an independent Baptist church, which means we are unaffiliated with any particular convention or official denomination. Generally speaking, we hold to the traditional and historic Christian belief.
We believe the Bible to be God’s inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word, preserved through time. We regard the King James Version as the preserved Word of God for English speakers (Psalm 12:6–7; 2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Peter 1:23-25; 2 Peter 1:19-21).
We believe in one God; Who is eternal, self-existent, infinite, and immutable. We believe He has one nature, one essence, and one substance; yet manifests Himself to man in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Timothy 1:17; James 1:17; 1 John 4:4)
We affirm Jesus Christ as the only Savior, eternally God with all attributes of Deity. He was virgin-born, lived a sinless life, and offered Himself as a substitutionary sacrifice for sin. After His resurrection and ascension, He will return to earth to reign for 1,000 years (Psalm 2:7-9; Isaiah 7:14, 9:6, 43:11; Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:25; Luke 1:26-35; John 1:1, 1:3, 14, 18, 29; Romans 3:19-25; Romans 5:6-15; Philippians 2:5-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Timothy 2:5; 1 Timothy 3:16; Titus 2:10-15; Hebrews 7:26, 9:24-28; 1 Peter 1:19, 2:2; 1 John 1:3; Revelation 20:1-6).
We believe in the inherent sin nature of all humans from Adam, making man incapable of self-reform. Salvation is through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice alone delivers from sin. Rejecting Christ leads to eternal condemnation in the lake of fire (Genesis 5:1-5; Acts 4:19; Acts 16:31; Romans 3:10-23; Romans 5:6-12; Romans 6:23; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-6; Revelation 20:11-14).
We believe the church began with the calling of the apostles and was empowered at Pentecost. The local church consists of saved, baptized members united for worship, fellowship, service, and observance of ordinances. True believers will be raptured before the tribulation (Matthew 16:16-18; Acts 1:15; Acts 2:41-43; Acts 11:15; Acts 20:28; 1 Corinthians 15:51-58; Ephesians 1:12-14; Ephesians 5:25-30; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Timothy 3:4-15).
We interpret Scripture literally in its grammatical and historical context. We believe in the pre-tribulational rapture, seven-year tribulation, pre-millennial return of Christ, 1,000-year reign, Great White Throne judgment, and new heaven and earth (1 Corinthians 15:51-58; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-9; Revelation 19-22).
What About Heaven?
